This couple purchased a grand old home in Jenkintown, PA that required major renovations to the kitchen, bar, and bathrooms throughout the home. Raphael Architects collaborated with Twining Construction to provide seamless design build service to the owners.
An existing porch was demolished and integrated into the kitchen area. Long span beams replaced two walls of the porch, to create a simple rectangular space for the kitchen to occupy. The kitchen design is dominated by a five feet wide by ten and half feet long island. The island’s monolithic slab of marble will support the major working surface of the kitchen as well as the countertop stools for the family to participate in the kitchen activities. Hutch-like furniture surrounds the island creating space for the cooking, refrigeration, cleaning and storage. A coffered ceiling reinforces the simple order of the kitchen centered on the island. A contiguous bar supports family entertaining in the adjacent public rooms.
On the second floor, all bathrooms were completely gutted down to the stone construction. New designs for a master, Jack and Jill, hall, and an en suite bathroom include new framing, thermal enclosure, heating, electricity, lighting, plumbing, fixtures and finishes transform the home. Selective demolition is complete with rough framing to follow shortly. The home should be ready for occupancy earl this spring.
