The owners love the open plan and large windows of their mid-century modern house set in a private wooded setting along the Wissahickon Creek in Gwynedd Valley, PA.
Organizational improvements support school-aged children and a home-based consulting business, reducing clutter throughout the home. A first floor mudroom creates a place for brief cases, backpacks, sports bags, coats, boots, and shoes. Kitchen, pantry, dining and family room renovations improve the open space qualities within the core of the home. The first floor mudroom borrows space from the existing elongated living room, leaving a more comfortably proportioned living space. The new construction is added above the existing garage and kitchen adding a bedroom and walk-in-closet, coupled with the conversion of the existing bedroom into a study, creating a private second floor enclave for the owners.
The renovations and additions dramatically alter the interior and exterior look of the home. Simple panel and rail design along with the natural horizontal surfaces create an integrated backdrop to support everyday family activities. Architectural modifications enhance the patterns of living, creating a harmonious home environment.
